STATEMENT
Something in Between
New York: I had been drifting away in between
I experienced the feeling of being marginalized due to the lack of communication and misunderstanding of a new culture. I was struggling to find a sense of identity in between, trying not to lose the harmony between a new culture and my own culture.
Seoul: I am still drifting away in between.
I am experiencing the feeling of being disconnected due to the lack of communication and misunderstanding of my people. I am still struggling to find a sense of identity in the society I live. I am trying not to be alienated from my own society.
One can be an outsider in the society where he lives and at the same time drift away from his own culture, becoming a stranger to both worlds. One does not belong to anywhere.
뉴욕: 나는 그 사이를 표류했다.
새로운 문화에 대한 소통의 단절과 오해로 인한 소외감을 경험했다. 나는 새로운 문화와 내 자신의 문화 사이에 조화를 잃지 않으려고 노력하면서 나의 정체성을 찾으려는 노력을 했다.
서울: 나는 아직도 그 사이를 표류중이다.
사람들과의 소통 부족과 오해로 인해 단절을 경험하고 있다. 나는 아직도 내가 살고 있는 사회에서 정체성을 찾기 위해 고심하고 있다. 내 자신의 사회에서 소외되지 않도록 노력하고 있다.
그가 살고 있는 사회에서 낯선 사람이 될 수 있으며, 동시에 자신의 문화로 부터 표류하면서 두 세계에서 이방인이 된다.
어디에도 속해 있지 않다.

In my paintings I am playing with different types of paint, colors, forms, and patterns.
My inspiration to play comes from observing human interaction.
In our show “Something in between” I will present new paintings on paper and yupo based on observations of people in New York City and Berlin.
In my own understanding, the "something" in between is a "mischmasch", an interplay of experience and point of view of different characters.
One person's understanding is always too incomplete to explain everything, we learn from the movement between us.
